Welcome to The Charleston Community Theatre’s website!
We are very excited about the 2011-2012 season.
Our winter show will be:
Doubt Dates: Jan. 20-22 and 26-28, 2012, Tarble Arts Gallery.
Set in the Bronx in 1964 at the St. Nicholas Church School, Doubt casts the school’s beloved priest, Fr. Flynn, against the school’s rigid principal, Sr. Aloysius. When Sr. Aloysius comes to believe that Fr. Flynn may have acted inappropriately towards the school’s first African-American student, she sets out to destroy his career, believing herself to be on a “holy mission.” Only at the end of the play, when the consequences of her actions are fully realized, does Sr. Aloysius come to realize her “doubts.”
Doubt: A Parable was the recipient of the 2005 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. It was written by John Patrick Shanley, who has also written numerous plays and teleplays. He received an Academy Award for his original screenplay of Moonstruck.
In 2005, Doubt was described by the Wall Street Journal as the, “best new play of the season.”
Doubt will be directed by Joe Allison.
Our spring show will be:
Godspell Dates: April 20-22, 2012 (one weekend only.) Godspell will be performed at Wesley United Methodist Church in Charleston.
The parables of Jesus Christ as told in the Gospel of Matthew come to life in this bright and popular musical. Godspell will feature a multi-generational cast and children’s chorus who sing “Prepare Ye The Way Of The Lord,” “All For The Best,” “All Good Gifts,” “By My Side,” and the international hit, “Day By Day.” Our production will feature new music from the revival that toured the U.S. in 2001.
Godspell was conceived and originally directed by John Michael Tebelak, with music and new lyrics by Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Pippin, Working.)
Godspell will be directed by Cathy Sheagren. Gaye Harrison (Motherlode) will be the musical director.
